Beginning String Ensemble at St. Matthias School

St. Matthias students from grades 3rd through 5th are invited to join the St. Matthias Beginning String Ensemble! This wonderful program is designed to be inclusive, and welcome students with different musical backgrounds. Whether your child is just starting their musical journey or is looking to further develop their skills, we have a place for them in our orchestra. 

The Beginning Ensemble is perfect for those who are new to string instruments. Here, students will learn the fundamentals of playing, reading music, and understanding rhythm in a supportive and encouraging environment. 

Participating in the ensemble not only fosters musical development but also nurtures personal growth, teamwork, and the joy of making music together. We believe that music has the power to unite and inspire, and we are committed to providing a rich educational experience that emphasizes creativity and collaboration. 

Location: St. Matthias School, 4910 N. Claremont Ave.

Session dates: September 3 - December 17

No Rehearsal: November 26

Rehearsal Day and Time: Wednesdays, 2:00 - 3:00

Tuition:  $265

Students must provide their own violin. We recommend renting from either    A440 or Evanston Band & Orchestra.  The cost is typically between $80-$100 for a 3 month period. Be sure to mention you are a student of Musical Chairs Studio.

A minimum of 10 students is needed to run each class. Classes will be limited to 25 children. Make-ups are not available for group classes. Students are expected to follow instructions from the teacher and be respectful at all times. Should discipline be an issue we will first reach out to parents. If a problem continues we may regretfully ask students to forfeit the remainder of the session to ensure quality of instruction for all students.
